MARGARET McARTHUR BA(Hons), MSc
Margaret McArthur has extensive experience in health care strategy and more recently in primary care development, and is an experienced group facilitator. She entered the NHS in 1984 in a health management consultancy capacity with The Management Advisory Service to the NHS. During this time she gained her Masters Degree in Public Policy Studies at the University of Bristol. From 1988 she worked in the former South West Surrey Health Authority in a variety of senior planning, commissioning and service development roles across acute and community services.
Since 1996 she has been working as an independent consultant specialising in primary care, mental health and inter-agency partnership working. In a personal capacity she is Chair of a newly-established local MIND group.
Major projects completed since 1996 include a 3 year mental health locality commissioning project in which Margaret pursued a programme of inter-agency work to promote the development of local Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services. This included an innovative theatre-based event to promote greater awareness of emotional well-being issues in schools and contributing to the West Sussex Healthy Schools Initiative. In recent projects for the Health Services Management Centre (University of Birmingham) she has surveyed Social Services placement officers regarding their approaches to the commissioning of residential placements for children and young people. She has recently undertaken a review of child and adolescent mental health services in Windsor & Maidenhead, and a review of the CAMHS service configuration in Surrey.
